The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, has been around for almost two centuries. It has ebbed and fluctuated in such a predictably adaptive manner throughout it's relatively short life in the religious realm. This Church has a very sordid past, which it does a very good job of teaching for itself, whether the history is slanted or not, is yours to decide. Join me on a journey through the history of the LDS Church through the eyes of the people that were actually there. We will learn about the founding members, where the practices came from, where the Book of Mormon (Mormon Bible) came from, and most importantly, we will examine Joseph Smith in every aspect possibly available to us today.

On this episode, we jump in to part 2 of the Cody Noconi discussion about entheogens. Part 1 established a brief world history of hallucinogen use throughout the 10,000 years we can speculate upon; part 2 focuses on just Joseph Smith and Mormon history, essentially compiling the theory that Jo used hallucinogens for himself and possibly drugged his parishioners to incite spiritual experiences. It may be controversial. It may strain credulity and raise red flags of skepticism. One may call bullshit at the very onset of the discussion, but this is a viable theory that needs to be discussed openly in the public square of Mormon history. If Jo’s use of entheogens helps to explain any aspect of his religion it needs to be a topic of open discourse. If any listeners have competing theories that provide more explanatory power than this, please get in touch with Cody or Bryce and we’ll further this conversation.

On this episode, we invite on amateur Mycologist Cody Noconi to discuss the history of entheogen use in the human race. Much of the information has been well substantiated by multiple historians and Cody has merely compiled it and brought it to the listening audience. We cover human history from the Fertile Crescent all the way to the enlightenment period, maybe we’ve been stoners for longer than historians think. Once we get into Hermeticism and Alchemy, the connections to entheogen use starts to become very powerful, to the point we can’t ignore its influence. Please take this as a jumping off point to engage in researching this topic for yourself.

On this episode, we finally jump into the Gallatin election day battle and the aftermath. Two diametrically opposed mobs matched each other’s ante as things continually escalate out of control. Jo and Rigdon take the Danites to Diahmen to impose their will upon elected officials. Lilburn Boggs organizes a militia to answer the Mormon aggression of 150 stripling warriors cascading across county lines in violation of Missouri law. Nobody holds the legal or ethical high ground as violent rhetoric is matched by violent action on both sides of the Mormon-Missouri conflict.

On this episode, we take the opportunity to have a conversation with an armchair Mormon historian known as the host of Year of Polygamy and Color of Heaven podcasts, Lindsay Park. Lindsay has made a livelihood from communicating Mormon history, and strives daily to actively open roads of discussion between believers and ex-Mo’s which typically remain less travelled. She now works as assistant director of the Sunstone Foundation to bring Symposiums to the world. We talk about her work and the ways she’s been successful in communicating Mormon history to her believing loved ones. From there we go on to discuss the history of polygamy and how it affected the Church since 1831. Was Joseph’s polygamy all a fabrication by Bloody Brigham Young?

On this episode, Jo and Rigdon come riding into Far West and decide to throw over the whole game board that’d been strategically placed by powers much larger than them over the past 5 years. First thing on the chopping block, the heads of all dissenters. D-Day David Whitmer’s nickname finally comes into play as he’s chased out of Far West along with Ollie Cowdung, John Goebbels Whitmer, Leadfoot Lyman Johnson and Double-Dub Phelps. A grand cleansing purges all who dare question the authority of the Prophet and his advisors. Hingepin Rigdon issues public death threats to those defectors and to all who oppose the Saints in Missouri; “It will be…. a war of extermination!” from the mouth of Jo’s spokesman. We read the entire July 4th Oration which was responsible for so much violence in Missouri in late 1838; Patreon subscribers get access to 50 extra minutes of reading the whole speech instead of just the crescendo.
